I recently had the pleasure of following an adorable family around their home/yard for a fun on-location shoot. They welcomed Joe and I into their home and yard and the family has a great selection of images to choose, I wanted to share a few of my favorites.

So I had a lovely breakfast on Sunday morning and trotted off to see The Business of Being Born, I thought it was a great film. Lots of intimate moments shared and a joy to watch. It makes you look at giving birth with a renewed sense of wonder; the film showed a lot of births without being too graphic. A good mix, perfect choice for a girls afternoon.

As you may have noticed with my sideline of "Movies we love", I am a hug movie fan. Many years ago I worked at Blockbuster and I really had an apprecition for great film making because I saw so many different kinds of movies. As a photographer, I know the kind of work it takes to find the right angle, the best lighting, and the best images to convey the emotions that are present.

As such, I am quite excited to see a new film, The Business of Being Born. Produced by Ricki Lake and directed by Abby Epstein, "The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system". There is a specail fundraising screening on May 25 by the Nova Scotia Doula Association at the Oxford theatre in Halifax, doors open at 11:30 and the film starts at noon. You are invited to come and watch this groundbreaking film,$10.00 is all you need for a fun informative afternoon.

Hope for Wildlife Gala Dinner

So off we went on Saturday evening to the Hope for Wildlife Gala Dinner. It was a huge turnout, lots of really great items for the silent and live auction. A huge thank you to those who participated in our photo booth, with your help we were give a great donation to the Hope for Wildlife Society.

We are very pleased to be helping out The Hope For Wildlife Society, we are attending their first Gala fundraising dinner at the Westin on Saturday the 10th of May. We are participating in this years Saltscapes Expo (April 25, 26,27), we spent a lovely Sunday afternoon there last year and were in awe of all the really great vendors at the show...bring some cash. There were wine tastings, cheese, and seafood in the tasting section, beautiful antiques, great stuff for the cottage, beadworks, incredible stained glass and scrumptious bath and body products. We'll be exhibiting some of our best work there and are really excited to be taking part in this years' expo. We have $1 off admission coupons, drop by, save a few bucks and say hello.

We are back from sunny Punta Cana; relaxed and rested. While away, we stayed at the very beautiful Eden H Real Arena and as soon as I can figure out how to add a slideshow we'll post some photos. If not, we'll add a few at a time.
I'll also be adding news of our mini sessions...watch for our April special. :)

Please note Pure Images Photo will be closed from March 24-31. At this time, we expect to re-open on Tuesday April 1st at our usual time of 12pm and be back on our usual schedule. Tues 12-8, W, T,F, 10-6 and Saturday by appt. only.

We currently have one Saturday appointment available on April 12 (afternoon only) and the next available Saturday date is May 10. So please call soon if you are looking for a Saturday session as we only have 2 Saturdays currently available in May.We do occasionally have reschedules, so if you require a maternity (34 weeks plus) or a newborn (under 3 weeks) session please call and we'll do our best to schedule you in for your session. We are still quite flexible with our weekday sessions.

Our part...

There is a lot of "talk" these days about being environmentally aware and doing our part for the environment. As a business we try to incorporate the things we do as individuals into our company policies and we try to be as earth friendly as possible. We do our part in a variety of ways; we have our printing (Atlantic Photo) and framing (National Art) done locally, we recycle our bottles and cans, we reuse our paper for notepads and drawing on our fun wall, we re-use all the packages our photos come in, our studio is cleaned with all natural cleaners, just to name a few. While the tradition is to use a lot of packaging when shopping, we use our enviro bags for everything as often as possible, so do your part. When you buy a small item, refuse the bag!
I bought a package of gum and a lip balm last week and was asked if I needed a bag...unless it won't fit in my purse or I can't carry it...I don't need a bag.

Like everyone, we do occassionally travel without our bags but we believe if everyone did their part most of time, our earth would be grateful. Just my 2 cents...
